Case Study: KUTAVAR Launch Video Production
Video Production Brief
Client: KUTAVAR
Product: CNC Plasma Cutting Table
Location: Hereford, United Kingdom
The Aim
The brief from the team at KUTAVAR for this video production was to produce a stand-out launch video for their brand new CNC plasma cutting table.
One of the things we’ve loved about working with KUTAVAR over the last few years is their open-mindedness when it comes to trying new ideas and being bold!
Whilst they have a strong idea about how they want to be perceived and how the brand should sit, they are always very happy to trust our expertise and advice when it comes to video production (and photography for that matter).
This approach enables us to do our best work and bring new ideas to the table which we believe will help them stand out from their competitors and ultimately, bring more opportunities for sales.
The Hereford Premises
We would be shooting this video at the KUTAVAR head office in Hereford, where there is the choice between two locations.
We chose the assembly and production room in this case for a couple of reasons.
Firstly from a practical point of view, there was a lot going on in the warehouse space at the time, so being able to shoot in there would have been difficult.
Secondly, we were able to create the lighting and sound conditions we wanted for the look we were going for. The room could be made entirely pitch black, meaning we could control the lighting and make the plasma cutting table look amazing!
Using a Professional Presenter
During the pre-production phase of the project, we discussed who would be presenting on this video. In previous videos, some of the directors had presented and while they did a great job, we knew we could raise the production level by bringing in a professional presenter.
Using a professional presenter in your videos has a couple of advantages.
Firstly, the overall delivery of the script is likely to be better, meaning people’s impression of your business is improved compared to when other people deliver the script. Of course, there are times when it would be advantageous to have a member of staff in the video, but when you’re presenting a new product to the world, a more polished video seems appropriate.
Secondly, a professional presenter is used to learning scripts quickly and being able to deliver the lines confidently straight away. This means we take less time during this stage of the shoot and can focus more on the details (such as lighting and sound), as well as having more time for the b-roll or cutaway shots that we need to shoot for the video.
Script Development
Part of our job as a full service video production company is to help develop the script that will be used in the video.
In this case, we spent several hours with the KUTAVAR team and our presenter, nailing down the message and writing it in a succinct way that felt natural to everyone, whilst communicating all the pertinent points.
Part of the brief we ask for before beginning a video production project is that we have a clear understanding of the intention of the video, who it’s aimed at and what key benefits need to be communicated. We can then take this information and craft a video that brings that message to your potential customers in an effective way.
The Video Shoot
With everything in place from a pre-production point of view, it was on to the shoot itself.
Our head of video production had a vision for the lighting in this video, which was dark, dramatic and impressive. Once this was all set up, we were able to build on the concept with ideas like having the lights in the shot, and seeing them come on as the video starts.

Sometimes these ideas come once we’re actually on location and have everything set up. Although we try to pre-visualise everything as much as possible, there are always unexpected things that can’t be planned for. In this example, it was the space required for our lighting and realising we would struggle to get the lights out of shot.
So we used this to our advantage and actually incorporated the lights into the video. And as mentioned above, the KUTAVAR team are always happy for us to try new things and push the boundaries!
Our presenter, Richard, delivered his lines perfectly and we able to move onto the b-roll shots which would be overlaid and demonstrate some of the points being made in the script.
Lighting is always key, and being able to control all the lighting during this shoot meant we were able to bring a dramatic, high-tech feel to this video.
